Jonathan Nichols
Associate – Natural Capital Environment PracticeAtkinsRéalis
Jon leads AtkinsRéalis’ (formerly Atkins) Natural Capital and Environmental Economics team. His work focuses on making the business case for nature, using natural capital accounting and ecosystem services assessments to enable developers and infrastructure organisations understand both their impacts and dependencies on natural assets. He helps them use this evidence to inform investment, design and planning decisions.
Jon describes his approach to managing natural capital assets as ‘silo-busting’ and ‘systems-based’, drawing together multidisciplinary teams and collaborative partnerships to pioneer new tools and technologies. He has a decade of experience working with developers, local authorities, water companies, regulators, and investors. This experience includes delivering natural capital training for the UK water industry and assessing clients’ readiness for managing nature risks and opportunities in line with the new Taskforce for Nature-related Financial Disclosures (TNFD) framework. Jon is a Chartered Environmentalist and a member of the Biodiversity and Natural Capital (BANC) steering group at the Institute of Environmental Management and Assessment (IEMA).
